Webelos
We like to see Webelos Dens meet an average of at least 4+ times a month:
3 meetings per month as a Den
1 outing every month (may be a camp out)
2 camp outs as a den over the year (1 as a Den and 1 with the Boy Scouts or Pack)
1 Pack meeting a Month
Den Meetings: Boys will make most of the progress toward their Webelos rank at Den meetings which is a major change from the way ranks were earned as Wolf and Bear. Some achievements are more fun when done as a group and will be completed during Den meetings. It is critical to the success of the Wolf Den that the Parents help the Den Leader to determine and deliver the Wolf achievements should be completed together as part of an exciting fun-filled Wolf Den program.
Outings: It is suggested that the parent or guardian of each boy in a Den take on the responsibility of running at least 1 outing for their Den during the year. Each Den Leader has a copy of the Pack 901 Leaders Guide that contains detailed information on several interesting and fun filled outing possibilities. If you and your Den find another fun filled possibility please share this with us so we can update our guide!
One of the major changes with Webelos Scouts is that they do more overnight outings. In fact they will need to participate in an overnight with a Scout Troop in order to graduate so be sure to understand these requirements and plan your outings early. More information can be found in the Webelos Leaders Guide provided to each Webelos leader.
Ethics in Action: BSA is currently reworking this requirements so we are placing this on hold until we get the new guidelines from National... we have already been waiting a year on this!
Advancement: Webelos Dens should target to have each boy complete all required achievements for their Webelos badge by February of their 4th Grade year. We will hold an advancement ceremony for these boys during the February Pack meeting. Boys that are unable to complete the achievements in this time frame should make every effort to complete them by June prior to the Pack picnic or make other arrangements with the Cubmaster.
5th Grade Webelos Dens should target to have each boy complete all required achievements for their “Arrow of Light” Award by March. We will hold an advancement “Bridging to Boy Scouts” ceremony for these boys during the March Pack meeting. If you feel your Webelos Den will be unable to make this date please contact the Cubmaster as soon as possible to make other arrangements. It is critical to the success of these Webelos boys that we advance them as close to the March date as possible so that they can successfully be assimilated into a Boy Scout Troop prior to the start of the camping season.
Pack Meetings: Webelos Scouts have been with the Pack for more than 3 years and know the routine, songs and the way the need to behave during a Pack Meeting. They will be role models for all other Cubs and our Tiger Dens and so it is important that they set a good example by paying attention to the Cubmaster at all times during the Pack meeting. Boys are starting to make the transition into Boy Scouts and as such will be leading and doing more of our activities during Pack meetings.
